SYLVAN BEACH — The Mohawk Valley Blues Society will host its annual blues picnic from 2-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 17, near Sunset Boulevard along the Sylvan Beach waterfront.
This free picnic will feature three blues bands on a lakeside setting. The headliner of the show will be the Billy Price Band, featuring legendary guitarist Roy Buchanan’s former vocalist, Billy Price.
After a stint with the late Roy Buchanan who featured him as a vocalist on two of the Telecaster master’s albums, ‘That’s What I’m Here For’ and ‘Live Stock’, multiple Blues Music Award winner Billy Price , recorded and released a total of 17 albums, CDs and DVDs, earning numerous accolades along the way. Her album “This Time for Real” received a 2016 Blues Music Award in the Best Soul Blues Album category, while her 2018 album “Reckoning” was nominated for a 2019 Blues Music Award in the Best Soul Blues Album category.
His latest album, “Dog Eat Dog” was nominated for a 2020 BMA for Best Soul Blues Album, and Price was also individually nominated for a 2020 Blues Music Award for Best Soul Blues Male Artist.
The event will also feature two of the region’s top blues bands. Opening the show at 2 p.m. will be CNY’s Uncle Charlie and the Meatballs, followed by the Nate Gross Band.
There will be grills available in the park and drinks of all kinds – adults and otherwise – are permitted. People are encouraged to bring extra food and drink to share to make this a true community event.
Although there is no admission fee, donations to help defray costs will be gratefully accepted.
