Sailors’ Society CEO Sara Baade will become the new president of the International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA) today (Wednesday 28 September).
She will officially assume the role as ICMA members gather from around the world in Rome this week.
“I am truly delighted and honored to become President of ICMA on World Maritime Day,” said Sara.
“It is a very exciting time to lead an organization that represents over 400 Seafarer Ministries around the world. Collaboration is essential now that the world has started to open up again after Covid-19.
“As CEO of a long-standing member organization of ICMA, I want to build on all the work done over the years to make the association a center of knowledge that brings together people with similar goals. . A hub that represents its members, verifying what they need and promoting and enabling common resources. »
ICMA General Secretary Jason Zuidema said: I am delighted to welcome Sara as the new President of ICMA.

Sara joins a new leadership team of four trustees at ICMA. The Reverend Mark Nestlehutt, President and Executive Director of the Seamen’s Church Institute, is ICMA’s Vice President for the next two years, with the Reverend Matthias Ristau, General Secretary of the German Seamen’s Mission, as secretariat and Albert Penninga of the Dutch Central Nederlandse Zeevarenden as ICMA. She will serve as president for two years before handing over the reins to vice-president.
