Expanding the in-depth and high-quality, future-oriented, multidisciplinary postgraduate programs offered by NUS through a virtual event comprising 14 booths, 14 masterclass sessions, 23 information sessions and more than 30 distinguished speakers.
SINGAPORE – Media outreach – 24 September 2022 – Endless disruption caused by rapid technological advancements, climate change, changing societal needs and emerging economic transformations have paved the way for a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) future. Developing the necessary knowledge and skills in key growth areas is the way to prepare and progress in the future economy.
In light of this, the National University of Singapore (NUS) has announced that it is organizing the NUS Postgraduate by Coursework Fair 2022 (NUS PGCF 2022) to develop and empower individuals and businesses to effectively manage the change. The event is aptly themed “Become a Master of Future Economies” and addresses key growth areas including: Digital Economy, Green Economy, Care Economy, industry 4.0 and more. The two-day, fully virtual event will run from October 4-5, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily, with the aim of increasing interest in higher education both locally and internationally. Participants will have the chance to learn how a prestigious Masters by Coursework program from NUS can help keep them future-ready and establish them as highly sought-after talents in a new era. In addition to its comprehensive program, the event features a roster of renowned speakers who are experts in their respective fields at NUS.
Organized by the Academic Programs Business (APB) unit under the NUS Office of the Vice Provost (Masters’ Programs & Lifelong Education), the event serves as a one-stop platform for attendees to gain insight into all colleges, schools, faculties and institutes of NUS that offer coursework masters programs. These include: Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, NUS Business School, School of Computing, School of Continuing and Lifelong Education, Faculty of Dentistry, College of Design and Engineering, NUS Law, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, Faculty of Science and more.
A notable highlight of the event is the masterclasses taught by esteemed NUS faculty members who are leaders in their disciplines, who prepare participants for future economies and the economic transformations brought about by key growth areas. The masterclasses cover a wide variety of hot topics including Industry 4.0, Maritime Technologies, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, “Art” of Entrepreneurship, Data Science, predictive analysis and more.
Dr. Li Haobin, a senior lecturer at the College of Design and Engineering and academic director of the Master of Science (Maritime Technology and Management) program, said that “sharing knowledge through such masterclass sessions would not only help to train a higher quality workforce to meet the new challenges of the maritime industry, but also to inspire more talent to conduct practical and impactful research to shape the future of the industry. As we progress in emerging technologies, we have found that it is important to provide education related to what we are looking for.
The masterclass sessions will not only cover maritime technologies but also the green economy. Dr L Roman Carrasco, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Science, said: “Reducing carbon emissions is key to managing global warming and climate change. I will explain why carbon markets represent one of the most promising tools to accelerate the transition to green energy.
Another highlight of the event is the exhibition with virtual booths that showcase a variety of NUS colleges, schools, faculties, and institutes, along with their masters-by-coursework programs. Additionally, program consultants are available at booths throughout the event to assist visitors. To learn more about master’s by coursework programs, admissions standards, and application processes, participants can speak directly with program consultants.
There are also information sessions, where speakers will share information about specific master’s programs by course and provide real-time answers to questions from the audience. Experts from various Masters by Course programs, including Computer Science, Science, Supply Chain Management, Energy Systems, Business Analytics, and the Arts, will lead these information sessions.
