Leading advocacy group, the Gravitas Group for Good Governance, otherwise known as 4G, has rejected a proposal in the Constitutional Amendment Bill making settlers indigenous to host communities after five years of colonization.
The group also rejected what it identified as a similar provision in the bill, currently before the National Assembly, ceding control of local government areas to the federal government.
The Gravitas Group, which made its position known in a statement on Thursday by senior leader Tola Adeniyi, its organizer, called “ill-digested thought” the idea that all it takes to become a Nigerian citizen and by extension a native of a “fraudulently created local government” is the possession of a “useless paper crafted using an equally fraudulently crafted NIN number”.
The group argued that the layout was further evidence that “the faceless cabal and its insidious think tank have once again reared their poisonous heads, this time striking the very jugular of Nigeria’s crumbling unification”.
In the statement titled “The Senate, Local Governments and Traps”, Grand Chief Adeniyi, a veteran columnist, author and former managing director of the Daily Times of Nigeria, said the group “received with brutal shock the publication of the Rubber- Stamp the Nigerian Senate on the outcome of the charade called Amendment to the Constitution.
According to him, “in the said communiqué, the 774 fraudulently created local governments in Nigeria will now report directly to the headquarters of the unitary government in Abuja. Councilors and presidents will henceforth be “elected” by the agents of the dictatorship at the Center. Local government chairpersons will now carry their begging bowls like state governors to collect Abuja’s monthly allowance.
The statement further stated that “release also for curious but obvious reasons confers ‘autochthony’ of any state on anyone who has spent 5 years in a state…in order that such a person may vote and be elected, and for n any position. , in the state of adoption.
“We have always believed that knives cannot carve their own handles. The Senate or even the National and State Assemblies, and all of the 4 States of the Kingdom are creations of the Constitution. They are the direct beneficiaries of a Constitution. A child cannot create or recreate his own father. Amendments to the Constitution must go through the rigors of a plebiscite. Also, Nigeria does not have a People’s Constitution at the moment. What the country operates with is a decree of the military government! And it was a seriously screwed up and shamelessly selfish decree.
“Nigeria is the only federation in the world where the Center creates or controls local governments! Local governments/councils/counties are created by state/province governments around the world. The Prime Minister of the Federation of Canada has no control over the Toronto Metropolitan Council. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom has no control over London City Council. They derive their independence from the powers granted to them by the state or provincial government.
“Nigerians can no longer be deceived. The hidden agenda behind this local government trap is to have the unitary government, which is the paymaster, to dictate the melody to the local government presidents. More dangerous than that is the longstanding desire to weaken all constituents of the so-called federation and keep a Monster at the Center. The creation of many non-viable states has already weakened indigenous nationalities while the creation of 774 mushroom local governments has nailed the coffin of any opposition to arbitrary unitarism and evil oligarchy.
“The most ridiculous part of this local government trick is like asking all federal university department heads to bypass their vice-chancellors and come before the finance minister for disbursements to their departments!
“What the woefully flawed Local Government Amendment seeks to achieve is the brutal destruction of the demographics of the nationalities of the Nigerian space. Egypt, our proud cradle of civilization, was once populated by “blacks” practicing their sun-based religion…then the Christians of the Roman Empire invaded the place and turned the country into almost 100% Christians. The Arabs invaded the place, occupied it, and irrevocably changed the demographics and made the country almost 100% Muslim!
“In the near future, if the Rugarites achieve their goal, and if the madmen playing with nuclear bombs have not destroyed the world, those who have obtained free citizenship and native status will take precedence over the native nationalities of origin and we would begin to see the Sultan of Ile-Ife, Emir of Owerri, Emir of Ijebu-Ode, Emir of Oturkpo, and perhaps Obi of Sokoto and Awujale of Kano. And Alhaji Gwandu Batagarawa will be governor of Akwa Ibom.
“It is very important, urgent and imperative to challenge the composition of the Senate and the House of Representatives if ever credibility should be attached to any vote taken in these chambers. Sokoto State had 3 senatorial seats. Kano State used to have 3 senatorial seats while Lagos also had 3. With the division of Sokoto and Kano into 6 states, these 2 states as amended now have 18 seats, and Lagos with its 25 million verified inhabitants are starving with only 3 places! Imagine the incredible disproportion.
“We have said it time and time again that the insults, humiliation, impunity and sickening arrogance of the cabal which has unduly set back Nigeria’s march towards civilization, development and modernity cannot thrive and succeed only with the active connivance of collaborators and beneficiaries across the country.The moment the 95% of the oppressed and repressed people of this country say “enough is enough”, the less than 5% will jump overboard! history is our witness.
“It is worth repeating for the umpteenth time that while the whole country, as evidenced by the public statements of all state governors, the National Assembly, state assemblies, monarchs and even the vice president, the state police should be instituted without delay to combat unprecedented terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, ritual killings and allied vices, a small bloc headed cabal has simply killed the prospect! !!
“The Gravitas Group for Good Governance calls on all whose conscience is against this march towards total domination and the ruin of indigenous nationalities to stand up with courage and defeat this calamitous bill. It makes no sense to postpone the end of the world.
