National tour of Heidi Schreck’s What the Constitution Means to Me resumes September 30

The national tour of Heidi Schreck’s play, Tony nominee and Pulitzer Prize finalist What the Constitution means to me, directed by Oliver Butler, relaunches September 30 at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Cassie Beck plays.

Beck, seen on Broadway in rose tattoo and Humans, was to succeed Maria Dizzia in the national tour in June 2020, but the tour was temporarily halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The cast also includes Mike Iveson from the original Broadway and National Tour cast, and high schoolers Jocelyn Shek and Emilyn Toffler alternating as the student debater. Jessica Savage and Gabriel Marin join the cast as stunt doubles.

“It’s exhilarating to be back in theaters, and I look forward to welcoming audiences back to What the Constitution means to me,“Schreck said in an earlier statement. “Cassie Beck is a brilliant actor and a human being, and I’m thrilled that audiences across America have the opportunity to experience Constitution with her on stage. I’m also grateful to everyone who worked so hard last year to make this tour’s return possible.

What the Constitution means to me runs from October 24 at the Guthrie before returning to Chicago from October 26 to November 21 at the Broadway Playhouse. Click on here for the current route.

Schreck’s play was an Off-Broadway hit at the New York Theater Workshop in 2018 before moving to Broadway in 2019 and receiving two Tony nominations. After Broadway What the Constitution means to me performed at the Eisenhower Theater at the Kennedy Center as well as seated engagements in Los Angeles and Chicago.

Schreck’s Broadway performance was captured and posted in October 2020 on Amazon Prime.

The manufacturing too characteristics scenography by Rachel Hauck (Hadesville), costume design by Michael Krass (Hadesville), lighting design by Jen Schriever (eclipse) and sound design by Sinan Refik Zafar (Hamlet). The casting director is Taylor Williams and the production manager is Nicole Olson.

The national tour is produced by Diana DiMenna, Aaron Glick, Matt Ross and Level Forward & Eva Price.
