Swissterminal launches the Frenkendorf-Wolfurt rail link

the Swissterminal Group has further expanded its intermodal portfolio by launching a new rail link to Wolfurt in Austria.

The service will operate from the company’s hub in Frenkendorf, Switzerland, and with its three weekly round trips, it will offer customers in the Vorarlberg region and eastern Switzerland the opportunity to connect to both the wider network of the Swissterminal group and the global network of its partner DP World.

The announcement of this connection supports Swissterminal’s goal of providing more efficient and sustainable transportation options for ocean freight in 20 and 40 foot containers.

From the Frenkendorf hub, customers can access a range of frequent and flexible connections, including the ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp, Genoa and La Spezia in Italy, and Neuss in Germany.

From Wolfurt, connections to the network of the service partner ÖBB Rail Cargo Group are also available. This includes the ports of Bremerhaven and Hamburg, Koper in Slovenia, Trieste in Italy and several others.

“The introduction of this service makes the rail freight terminal in Wolfurt an even more attractive option for the strong export markets of the Voralberg region and eastern Switzerland,” said Roman Mayer, CEO of Swissterminal.

“With increased access to the network of Swissterminal as well as the network of our partner DP World, customers will benefit from numerous transport options to northern and southern Europe.

“We are very pleased to take another step to expand our range of sustainable and efficient transportation options for shipping containers.”

Swissterminal also recently launched a new connection between the port of Antwerp and Ottmarsheim.

This latest offering from Frankendorf logistics service providers will see 540 TEUs transported weekly on environmentally friendly rails. The product will also relieve supply chain congestion in the region and strengthen the resilience of its network.
