A Silicon Valley startup has developed technology that can change the accents of call center workers in real time. The company, Sanas, told the BBC his technology could overcome bias based on accent and reduce racist abuse faced by staff. But some critics have called it a step in the wrong direction and say linguistic diversity should be celebrated. News site SFGATE accused Sanas of making the officers, many of whom are from the South, “sound white.” Sanas, which has reportedly received $32 million in funding since June 2022, describes its technology as an accent translation tool. Sony raises the price of PlayStation 5 up to 20%, according to the company, in all major markets except the United States. Astronomers discovered a relative exoplanet which may turn out to be the first such world covered in the water. TOI-1452 b is a slightly larger and more massive exoplanet than Earth about 100 light-years from our planet in the constellation Draco. In a document published Wednesday in The Astronomical Journal, University of Montreal researchers determine that the planet’s mass suggests it is largely made up of something less dense than rock, but denser than gas – a potential sign of a global ocean . “TOI-1452 b is one of the best candidates for an ocean planet that we have found to date”, doctoral student in astrophysics at the University of Montreal Charles Cadieux said in a statement. “Its radius and mass suggest a much lower density than would be expected for a planet composed mostly of metal and rock, like Earth.” Independent
