With the midterm elections approaching so soon, I think it is extremely important to reach out to a broad electoral integrity problem here in America, as well as a possible solution. The problem is that wealthy American billionaires and multi-millionaires, as well as even foreign entities, are able to shape our local elections and our local referendums, using large sums of money.
In fact, there are local elections in the country, where nearly 90% of donations came from out of state. This raises the question of whether, if someone is elected under these conditions, they truly represent the will of their local voters. However, there is a proposed new amendment to the US Constitution roaring across the country, and it has now been approved by 22 of the 38 states needed.
This amendment, when passed, would officially become the 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and officially prohibit the use of foreign and out-of-state funding in local races.
