The Winslow Center will offer free technology workshops


WINSLOW — The Sisters of St. Joseph of Lyon plan to offer free monthly technology workshops to anyone over 55.

The workshops will run from 1:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Sept. 21 at St. Joseph’s Center at 80 Garland Road, according to a press release from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.

The workshops focus on the safe use of technology in everyday life: dealing with malicious emails, web browsing, using video conferencing to communicate with family and friends, online shopping, etc.

Rose’s room

Rose’s Room is a non-sectarian monthly support group for those who have a loved one in jail or prison. The group meets via Zoom at 7 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. To participate, ask questions or arrange an individual appointment, send an e-mail [email protected].

Become a welcoming community

This group seeks to reach out to LGBT+ people and their loved ones, in line with the call of the US Bishops in their statement “Always Our Children.” Participants are welcomed with respect, compassion and sensitivity. There are in-person meeting opportunities, but a monthly meeting is held at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom on the third Monday of each month. 80 Garland Road Group

Inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si’, the Sisters organize free educational events to teach new ways to care for the earth, as well as to support and share the four acres of land on which they stand. find the center. The partnership includes the Winslow Agricultural Commission, Mid-Maine Permaculture, Kennebec/Messalonskee Trails and the Sisters. The group meets from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of each month for a skill-sharing workshop learning permaculture techniques. Gospel Reflection

The Sisters hold a Gospel Reflection Group from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Mondays at the center to share prayer and reflect on the Sunday Gospel reading.

“The words of our mission statement are ‘To love God and neighbor without distinction,'” said Sister Judy Donovan. “We usually point to these words on the wall and explain them briefly whenever we welcome a new group or workshop to the center.”
